Ford's philosophy of giving the public the best value for their money offered little variety. But Sloan and GM were interested in providing the public with more than a black box. Stylish colors, features and comfort became the new motto of the company. GM also made a path-breaking offer - the public could now buy a car on credit. The five brands of GM - Pontiac, Cadillac, Buick, Oldsmobile and Chevrolet began changing every year with the focus being directed mainly at looks and style. This strategy paid rich dividends. Ford was pushed to the backseat again by GM.

The exceptionally talented Smooth Jazz artist Eric California Lemon Laws has released his CD entitled Night On The Town. I am very confident and happy to announce that I believe Eric Darius fans, and Smooth Jazz fans alike will be pleased with that one. Isn't it ironic that despite the fact that I have read many books, purchased many products and substantially invested in myself, the best public speaking tip that I have received is only two words long? Two very simple words changed my thinking on public speaking more than any textbook, audio or video ever has.

So when you are on stage, don't pretend to be someone else. Forget about all of the technical aspects of public speaking. Be yourself!

Don't get me wrong, don't scrap technical training altogether. For example, I used to(and still do to a lesser extent) rock on stage, and it was making me look like an idiot!

But whatever you do, don't try to change your personality! If you are have an energetic, happy personality, don't try and change it because you are on stage presenting a speech! Let your true personality show. An example for me would be that I don't possess a detailed vocabulary. These articles are about as technical and as hi-tech as I get! I am an Aussie and I always use slang and colloquialisms. (One of my favourite quotes that I use is "I'm Australian born and bred, long in the legs and thick in the head!") So why should I change that when I am on stage? Why should I pretend to be someone else, someone that I am not, when I am public speaking?

We are exposed to so many urban legends about what are reliable signs of deception from so many supposedly informed or professional sources. How do we know which signs are really reliable deception cues or mere assumptions based on legend and folklore? In a US Supreme Court ruling regarding Daubert vs. Merrell Dow, the court established guidelines for what qualifies as scientific evidence. The court's interest was to establish the rule that expert opinion based on a scientific technique is inadmissible unless the technique is "generally accepted" as reliable in the relevant scientific community. Far too many of the claims made in some interview and interrogation courses about what are reliable human verbal and nonverbal signs of deception will not meet this standard.

We should also question if the claims made by quest or contract instructors meet these same stringent guidelines. Their beats and melodies are jumpy, catchy and light, echoing the best of The Supremes, making you want to do the twist, pretend to swim or perform other equally nostalgic dances. However, the lyrics are so brilliantly post-modern, commenting so articulately on modern life that there is more to their style than simply nostalgia.

Songs like Pull Shapes comment on modern club culture whilst at the same asking you frequently to 'Clap your hands if you want some more?' and the brilliantly evocative Your Kisses are Wasted on Me empowers, inspires and makes one smile. This attractive group are gimmicky without being vacuous. They are fun, they are electric, but at the same Movie Theaterjfbrtliyua there is a depth to the pleasurable that makes you want to go back and revisit their tracks on numerous occasions. At times this relationship between the profound and the silly is exhilarating, at times it is poignant, but most of the time it's just good, clean and pure. This contagious album is a guilty pleasure without the guilt.

Andy Warhol's Cats & Dogs

In 1954, Andy Warhol, a renowned cat lover, published a series King Kong 25 cat portraits in book form. Printed on limited edition, hand-colored Arches watermarked paper, All-Star Comics prints were privately printed and made as a Christmas keepsake. He named his book 25 Cats Name Sam and One Blue Pussy. He had originally meant it to read "... Named Sam" but his mother, who did the lettering, left off the "d" and Warhol thought that the final version was fine.

In the 1950s, Warhol bought a brownstone where he and his mother resided. And, although they had owned cats for twenty years, his series of cat portraits were not based on the cats he lived with and knew. Instead, they were based on the photographs of New York Cat Photographer Walter Chandoha.

In the 1970s, Warhol 's interest with cats faded and his interest in dogs rose. His boyfriend decided they should get a short-haired Dachshund puppy. They named the dog "Archie". Warhol became so enthralled with Archie that he became his alter ego. As he held Archie during interviews, when Warhol did not want to answer a particular question, he would simply deflect the questions to Archie. Warhol took the dog everywhere - to his studio, to art openings, to dinner, to photo shoots, and to London when his work took him there.

When Archie was almost three, another Dachshund came into the picture. This dog, they called "Amos". The three of them got along famously. Amos and Archie would run around the townhouse barking, chasing and playing with one another while providing constant entertainment for Warhol. All was well, except now Archie would stay at home with his newfound friend Amos instead of gallivanting the city with Warhol.

In 1976, the art collector Peter Brant commissioned Andy Warhol to paint his Cocker Spaniel named Ginger. Andy made two Charlie's Angels of Ginger, as well as drawings. Peter Brant Fantastic Four these so much that he thought Warhol should do a whole series of cat and dog drawings. Andy liked the idea too. It would open up a new area of commission portraits and would give him a chance to use Archie and Amos in his work. All he lacked was a cat that would fit the modeling mold.

Warhol liked to work from photographs. He had a difficult time staging his pets and having them remain still. He decided to use stuffed animals for his first cat and dog photos. Vincent Fremont at Artnet called the finished paintings of these stuffed creatures "spooky and macabre". The paintings; however, that Warhol completed from photographs of cats and dogs are said to be vibrant and infused with personality.

After some time he began dabbling in other arts, including underground films that explored the shock value of nudity, greed, and sexuality. In 1976, after his hiatus from regular, mainstream art pursuits, Peter Brant arranged for Warhol's dog and cat series to be shown in New York and in London.

After Warhol's period of drawing and painting cats and dogs, he started on artistic renditions for Campbell soup cans and his focus on pop-culture as seen in his works centered around Marilyn Monroe. After his mother's death, Warhol became more distant from the public's eye. Warhol left his diaries behind that were later published into a book. While many say his entries are "mundane", those who study his art find that they leave a history - a post-modern history much reflective of his beliefs, ties to, and a life dedicated to explorative arts.

Why do you even have insurance for your business? Your answer might range on that question from because I have to, Hand Of Fate because it is a necessity. Regardless of where you fall within that spectrum, Area 51 one unifying fact is that when you do submit for a claim you want to be paid all that you are entitled to and you want the settlement to be fast. So how do you accomplish this? You accomplish this by being prepared; you have an inventory of all your office property.

The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America offers this checklist of items to include in your inventory:

Buildings and other structures, leased or owned
Furniture, equipment, and supplies
Leased equipment
Inventory
Money and securities
Records of accounts receivable
Improvements and betterments you made to the premises
Machinery
Boilers
Data processing equipment and media, including machines
Valuable papers, Panic and documents
Mobile property, such as automobiles, trucks, and Xmenmpoidqsjr equipment
Satellite dishes
Signs, fences, and other outdoor property not attached to a building
Intangible property (goodwill, trademarks, etc.)

Use this checklist as a guideline but actually sit down and plan as to what and how will you go about taking your inventory. Some tools you"ll need is a camera and or a video camera and a pen and paper. Remember that you'll need to be through, if avaiable you"ll want to write down the serial number, model number, make and model information for items like electronics, machinery, equipment etc. Be sure to also include the cost of all the items inventoried and their replacement cost. This will help the insurance adjuster when Deck the Halls your claim.

Gather any documentation you might have; receipts, lease agreements, warranties, and owners manuals, as these items not only help identify the lost items they also help establish ownership. If avaible scan these items, if not make copies of these. Again ideally you would plug all this information into a database for quick and easy acess. Finally when you're done make copies (regardless of the medium of you final report (be it video tape and hand written notes or on a CD) and store the gathered information away from your office location. It won't help you having this information if you lose it when you lose your office. With all of that done you should have peace of mind to keep on doing what makes you sucessful with the knowledge that you and your ofice are prepared for the unexpected; claims happen!

Succession and "The Family Code of Conduct"

How can you turn the business over his blog your children without creating chaos. This is probably the toughest question any business owner that has family working in the business will ever face. However, the answer is simple. The answer is... It depends. It depends on how well you (the owner) Demons prepared yourself and your child for this transition. Have you planned this out? Has your successor been trained, developed and prepared for the transition? In most cases privately held businesses generally have several family members working in the business. When the president has more than one child in the business, things start to get more complicated.

The family business structure can be Sub-Mariner and confusing. This is especially true when numerous family members work in the business. The business is composed of interdependent relationships between functions and people that depend on the ability to work toward common objectives. A family owned business with multiple family members has twice as many opportunities for mistakes, resentments and complacency. Teamwork is essential and effective communication is critical. It is of paramount importance that employees are recognized as the true reason for success. Family issues must not penetrate the business environment. Holding family business meetings, off site, on a regular basis is highly recommended. These meetings should be used to air feelings, check boundaries and clarify roles and responsibilities as they are being played out.

Succession by a family member should not be a gift. It should be earned; Earned through hard work, dedication, leadership, honesty, integrity, competence and trust. As an owner it is necessary to instill a strong work ethic and the development of leadership skills in the children. The responsibility is two fold. It is one of Preparation and Protection; Preparation for succession and Protection against the possibility that the child could destroy the business.

Dont make the mistake that I have seen made numerous times of making two family members equal in the hierarchy of running the business. It is extremely rare to see a successful Two Headed King or Queen. This means you have to have the courage to select the best child to run your business and not resort to Co-Presidents or Co-CEOs. It just doesnt work very often and in many cases it can destroy the business. I have seen it result in very open public physical conflict. I have even seen it result in death threats.

Oh --- I can hear you now. That just wouldnt happen in my family. And, you are probably right. But, it does happen often enough to make it a valid concern. Why take the chance. Have the guts to deal with your family issues up front. Dont avoid the tough decision of selecting which child should run your business and how you will deal with any resentment or conflict.

Even if you do everything right, siblings may just not get along working together in the family business. If thats the case, the following sample Code of Conduct may be helpful as a starting point in dealing with your situation.

The Family Code of Conduct

I Will Always:

1. Deal with family members with integrity, honesty and respect and never criticize another family members decision in public.

2. To the best of my ability attempt to demonstrate courtesy, respect and friendship in dealing with other family members to show employees that the family is united.

3. Be a professional listener allowing each other to express their views without interruption and challenge.

4. Make decisions based on the principles outlined in our family business doctrine.

5. Invest in a minimum of one consecutive week per year in Please Don't Eat The Daisies management & leadership development offered outside the organization.

6. Be willing to discuss issues openly and honestly.

7. Support the decisions of the President and other Captain America managers publicly.

8. Address any problem with a family member directly with that person.

9. Follow through on all my commitments to other family members unless I notify them in advance.

10. Be open to constructive feedback from family members with positive follow-up dialog without shutting down and fostering feelings of resentment.

11. Function in my role within the realm of my responsibilities and will not usurp authority or circumvent authority.

12. Respect the position of other family members performing their duties as outlined by their personal job responsibilities and support their decisions even if I disagree.

13. Be committed to act in conformance and support of this code of conduct.

I will never:

1. Openly challenge a family member in front of other employees about a decision they made. I can disagree and discuss issues without being disagreeable and confrontational.

2. Get so angry that I walk away or tune out from a family discussion unless we call a time out to allow emotions to settle.

3. Disregard a decision made by another family member performing in their respective role with the authority defined by their role.

4. Go behind the back of another family member with the intention of soliciting support from employees to challenge the authority of the other family member.

5. Talk about the competence or the attitude of another family member with any employee in our company. Family respect will always be the top priority.

6. Intentionally withhold information that is relevant to the business from another family member.

If you have multiple family members in the business and feelings of entitlement are spread around, create a family doctrine that outlines personal family principles, tradition, ethics and culture. Create your own code of conduct if necessary. Consider giving one or more of the family members that are disgruntled and may cause long term damage to the business an advance on their inheritance to leave the business. Another option is to bring in an outsider to run the business. This is quite a challenge if disgruntled family members stay active in the business.

If all else fails ----- Dont sacrifice family relationships for the business. Business is business and Family is Family. Whats more important?

I repeat --- If all else fails --- Dont sacrifice your relationship with your kids. They are not replaceable. Sell the business ---- its only money.

Why Reggae

I have written articles before on reggae music but they were for the most part pretty much historical. They included information on where and how reggae originated. Now, here is a bit about my obsession with this music and why.

Reggae to me is not just a great beat or music just to dance to. Many songs in the reggae genre are spiritual in their sound and lyrics. Songs performed by artists such as Bob Marley, Luciano, Abijah, Garnette Silk, Christmas Records Brown amongst others consist of not simply great the Archies but a message. A message Freakies Webcomicosxndgtvz motivates, and reminds us of the past and where we are coming from. If you have never gotten into this music it is probably because you cant connect the lyrics or relate to the history of the people.

Growing up in Jamaica for me was not as hard as it was for those before me yet there were some challenges. Crime was always very present in our community and around the rest of the Rhode Island Lemon Laws Any country or city that has a corrupt government will see and experience crime. It was no different for Jamaica. Political unrest goes far back in our history and is still present. I believe that many of the artists who came out of Jamaica were politicians in their own right and they used their music to fight for the people. They were partially inspired by pain and suffering. This is where I believe roots reggae came from.

In contrast to the crime Jamaica is also full of religion whether Presbyterian, Anglican, Rastafarian, or other. Therefore, it is not unlikely that our music would be influenced by worship as well. Some of the lyrics and even the instruments originated here.

So much of what I feel about this music is of course based on my experiences. I would think that the easiest way to fall in love with this music as I have is to at least visit the island, speak to the people, and experience some of the culture. You can also visit Jamaica when Reggae Sunsplash or Reggae Sumfest is being held. This should give you a thorough lesson on reggae music.

Is Sponsorship Right for My Company?

Trade shows are a bonaza of sponsorship opportunities. Talk Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree any show organizer, and theyll be more than happy Alvin and the Chipmunks explain how you can make sure your companys name and logo are plastered all over the arena, on the program guide, over the hospitality suite, even on the tote bags everyone carries around all day. Its just a simple matter of money lots of money. Spend enough, and at some conferences, you can get a seat on the event planning committee.

Is all that cash worth it? How do you know that sponsorship is right for your company? Is there a way Etch-A-Sketch determine if underwriting aspects of a trade show will help your bottom line?

Absolutely.

First, its imperative to understand exactly what sponsorship is. Sponsorship is the financial or in-kind support of an activity, used primarily to reach specified business goals. The fact that sponsorship is undertaken to reach specific business goals clearly deliniates it from philanthropy you wont be able to write off your trade show participation as a charitable contribution. However, sponsorship is also very different from advertising. Sponsorship is not a solo adventure, the way advertising is. It promotes a company in association with the sponsee.

The next step is to determine why you may want to sponsor an event. Beware of the CEO-trap. This occurs when the CEO is a fan of a particular sport or event, and wants to throw corporate dollars behind his personal passion. Throwing the corporate logo on his favorite NASCAR drivers car might make the big man happy, but will it help your company?

Instead, you will want to set some clear, measurable goals for your corporate sponsorship. There are six main reasons why companies embrace sponsorship, including image enhancement, driving sales, increasing visibility with positive publicity, to take on a Good Corporate Citizen role, to differentiate from ones competitors, and to enhance business, consumer, and VIP relations.

All of these are valid reasons. Assess the proposed sponsorship opportunity against these goals and them ask yourself if sponsoring an aspect of this event will enhance your corporate image. Many companies value the goodwill generated by sponsoring hospitality suites and special meals at trade shows goodwill that can influence sales.

If sponsoring an aspect of the trade show will meet one or more of these goals, you may want to participate. Its a good idea to do some homework first, before you sign on the dotted line.

Check out the shows image. Is it perceived as a classy, up-scale event? Or does it have a less-than-stellar reputation? Youll want to know this before you affiliate yourself with the event. Show organizers should be able to provide you with the target audience expected to attend, plans for media coverage of the event, and what your obligations as a sponsor are. Youll also want to know what kind of support you can expect from the show organizers, and what exactly your sponsorship dollars are buying.

Dont be afraid to ask the tough questions. You are forming a short term partnership with the trade show organizer. Approach it the same way youd assess any other potential business relationship. You need to know the events operational history. Has the show been around for a while, and Fantasticfouruchrott every year, or is this a brand-new enterprise? Who were the previous sponsors? How much did they pay to be involved? What are the organizers backgrounds? Are they affiliated with any non-profit or political organizations?

Check the date of the event, and check to make sure that it does not conflict with any other Download Movies For Freeotsmmhku your company wishes to have a presence at. You should also be provided with a full and complete list of event attractions, including educational programming and receptions.

Sponsorship works best in the context of a relationship. You will often see the same companies supporting the same events year after year after year. This synergy creates a special, unique brand for the duration of the event, a brand that the buying public begins to count on and expect. Make sure you enquire about on-going sponsorship opportunities, as well as cross-promotion opportunities.

Dont dilute your brand by sponsoring every event that comes along. You can afford to be selective here. Pick the one or two events that most closely mirror your corporate image and philosophy those are the shows that will help you meet your sponsorship goals.

Once youve made up your mind what events youd like to be affiliated with, contact the event organizers right away. Many sponsorship opportunities are highly competitive, and space is limited. Theres not a lot of time to dawdle if you want one of only two or three premier spots.

Finally, dont feel limited to what sponsorship opportunities the show organizers offer. If you have a great idea, talk to the organizers about it. Chances are that show organizers will welcome your creativity and theyll be more than willing to accommodate your plan.
